Westown Movies is set to open up a new bar this month, serving beer in cans and on tap, as well as other bottled beverages, like Mike’s Hard Lemonade, according to a Feb. 22 article by Cheryl Mattix of the Cecil Whig.

The theater began serving beer and wine in mid-February, but a permanent bar is being built in the former arcade area.

The new concessions came as a result of legislation passed in 2014, making it the first movie theater in the state to serve alcoholic beverages.

"The law requires movie theaters to have a minimum of 500 seats, be open for at least five days a week and show a minimum of 250 movies a year to be eligible to apply for a license. So far, Westown is the only applicant in Delaware," the article said.

Aside from alcohol, the current concession menu includes treats from Half-Baked Patisserie, Pretzel Boys, Pat's Select Pizza and Grill, Smackerals by Michelle, and Bruster's Ice Cream. There are also $2 waters and $4 kids snack packs, plus White Castle cheeseburgers.

According to the article, more updates could be on the way to the concession menu.
