Charges filed against suspect in two attempted abductions

Newark police, in conjunction with the Delaware State Police and the Middletown police, has captured and charged Joseph B. Rudge with multiple crimes related to the attempted abduction of two people on July 4 in Newark.

Police obtained many tips relating to Rudge's location. These tips led police to the 1200 block of North Claymont Street in Wilmington, where the Newark Police SWAT team served a search warrant taking Rudge into custody without incident.

Rudge, 35, was arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institute in lieu of $48,700 secured bond. He faces charges of two counts of attempted kidnapping, second degree, attempted carjacking, attempted theft, attempted theft from a victim over the age of 62, the failure to re-register as a sex offender, and two counts of offensive touching.
