Newark Police involved in collision at the intersection of Route 4 and Route 72

Fortunately, only minor injuries were sustained in an accident at the intersection of Route 4 and Route 72. On Friday, May 22, at approximately 7:30 p.m. a Newark Police unit was responding to the Brookside development to assist New Castle County Police with a burglary-in-progress complaint involving weapons. The Newark Police car was traveling east bound on Route 4 and entered the intersection with Route 72. A vehicle (blue Mazda 3) was travelling northbound on route 72 entered the intersection at the same time and was struck by the Newark Police vehicle. The Mazda’s driver and the Newark Police officer were both transport to Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
